Reel Power Marine & Energy  Completes Milestone, 20,000lbs Testing of Catahead (Patented Pending) and LARS Platform:

Houston, TX – September 14, 2016 - Reel Power Marine & Energy dba Radoil has just completed a major milestone in the testing of its patented Catahead drive unit for our line of Launch and Recovery System (LARS) platforms. After years of development, design, and testing, Reel Power’s Catahead design engineers and technicians have successfully completed function testing at 20,000lbs. The next and final step in the Catahead design evolution will be to complete the durability life cycle testing currently in progress at our Houston, TX facility located at West Rd & Beltway 8.

The powered Catahead drive was designed specifically for Reel Power LARS systems but can be retrofitted to any existing LARS platform with minor modifications. The Catahead drive eliminates the need for large heavy duty winch systems. Whether you are lifting an ROV, UTA, or a smaller subsea component, the Catahead is designed to adjust for the weight differential without the need for tension adjustments and eliminates the possibility of lift cable failures due to knifing.

The Catahead system was designed to:

  • Lower Operating Costs
  • Rewind Cable On-board the Vessel, No Need to Return Winch to Shore
  • Lower Total Weight by 10-20%
  • Ease Maintenance Requirements
  • Provide Smaller LARS Footprint
  • Free Up Main Deck - Position Reel on Sub-deck or Other Location
  • Catahead Can Handle Other Deployment Operations - Eliminating Additional Equipment

The Reel Power Catahead type LARS is expected to be available for delivery in 2017. For more information, please contact Bob Wilson: [email protected], or visit: https://reelpowerog.com/ for information about all of our products at Reel Power Marine & Energy dba RADOIL.
